چکیده

The performance of two methods to reconstruct Northern Hemisphere temperature histories of the past millennium is analyzed by applying them to the known development of an extended climate model simulation. The MBH-method underestimates lowfrequency variability significantly, whereas Moberg’s method operates satisfactorily. Some

Validation of the Historical Reports of the Book “Estitār al-Emām” A Source for Rewriting the Political-Cultural History of the Pre-African Ismailis

Abstract In this article, by comparing the historical reports of the book Estirār al-Emām with the reports of non-Ismaili sources, an attempt is made to examine and analyze the validity of this book as a historiographical source in reconstructing the history of the Ismailis before 297 AH. The results show that a critical reference to Ismaili works along with non-Ismaili sources can be an impor...

A mathematical analysis of the divergence problem in dendroclimatology

Tree rings provide a primary data source for reconstructing past climates, particularly over the past 1,000 years. However, divergence has been observed in twentieth century reconstructions. Divergence occurs when trees show a positive response to warming in the calibration period but a lesser or even negative response in recent decades. The mathematical implications of divergence for reconstru...

Reconstructing the historical distribution of the Amur Leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis) in Northeast China based on historical records

The range of the Amur leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis) has decreased dramatically over the last 100 years. This species is still under extreme risk of extinction and conservation efforts are rigorous. Understanding the long-term dynamics of the population decline would be helpful to offer insight into the mechanism behind the decline and endangerment and improve conservation perspectives an...

Slip flow in porous micro-tubes under local thermal non-equilibrium conditions

In the present work, forced convection heat transfer of slip flow in porous micro-tubes with local thermal non-equilibrium between the gas and the solid matrix is investigated numerically. For this purpose, the flow is considered hydrodynamically developed but thermally developing. The Darcy-Brinkman-Forchheimer model in conjunction with separate energy equations for the gas and the solid matri...

The Local Limit Theorem: A Historical Perspective

The local limit theorem describes how the density of a sum of random variables follows the normal curve. However the local limit theorem is often seen as a curiosity of no particular importance when compared with the central limit theorem. Nevertheless the local limit theorem came first and is in fact associated with the foundation of probability theory by Blaise Pascal and Pierre de Fer...
